The Mission of Read for L.I.F.E. is to
provide tutors, and appropriate materials to adult residents of
Hancock County to help them learn to read and expand their literacy
and other related skills.
Read For L.I.F.E. (RFL) was established in 1987
to provide reading instruction for adults who are unable to read
or have limited reading ability.
RFL is a non-profit program to help improve
literacy in Hancock County through volunteers trained to act as
teachers/tutors on a one-to-one basis with adult non-readers.
RFL estimates that approximately 8% of Hancock County adults cannot read well enough to function in today's society. This translates to over 5,000 adults. These people face a very limited future unless they learn to read.
RFL recruits and trains volunteers to serve
as one-to-one tutors for adults 18 and over who want to learn
to read.
RFL promotes literacy within the Findlay/Hancock
County community and seeks out adults who want to learn to read.
RFL is a private, non-profit organization which
receives financial and in-kind support from individuals, corporations
and service clubs in Findlay and Hancock County.
L.I.F.E. stands for "literacy is for everyone."
